Îlot Balmoral - new participating parking lot offering on-street parking rate for 2 hours

Montréal, Québec, February 26, 2021 – The Agence de mobilité durable (the “Agency”), in collaboration with the Ville de Montréal, is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Société d’habitation et de développement de Montréal (SHDM) and the addition of its Îlot Balmoral building to the P$ Montréal Centre-Ville pilot project. This initiative allows downtown visitors to take advantage of various existing private parking lots’ offer and thus reduce the time it will take to find a parking space.

Therefore, as of March 1, 2021, this new partnership will allow users of the mobile app, as well as any motorists looking to park in the Quartier des spectacles area, to take advantage of the same on-street parking rates as those on Sainte-Catherine Street West inside the Îlot Balmoral building’s parking lot, with its 186 parking spaces, which is located at the intersection of de Maisonneuve Boulevard and de Bleury Street, on the outskirts of the Place des Festivals.

Users will automatically benefit from the discounted fare for two hours, without any additional action on their part, simply by showing up at the entrance of the parking lot, via Mayor Street. The street rate is available in this participating parking lot between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. (parking entrance time) Monday to Friday and at all times on weekends. Beyond the maximum of 2 hours, the user will switch to the usual parking rates of the Îlot Balmoral parking lot.

"We are delighted to be able to count on the SHDM as a new partner in the project," highlighted Laurent Chevrot, General Manager of the Agency. "Despite the current situation, we are confident that in the coming months, visitors will gradually return to the city center and that expanding the parking offer will be an additional lever to encourage and facilitate travel to the downtown core and contribute to the efforts to revitalize economic activity, in conjunction with the City of Montréal's initiatives in this regard. This third partnership – and fifth participating parking lot – enhances the downtown parking offer, namely by its prime location in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles, while demonstrating the attractiveness and relevance of continuing to pool private downtown parking.”

"We are always on the lookout for partnership projects to fulfil our economic and social development mission. In collaboration with the Montreal Sustainable Mobility Agency, the SHDM helps facilitate the travel of Montrealers downtown and thus helps revitalize the area," said Nancy Shoiry, Executive Director of the SHDM.

"We are pleased with this new partnership with the Société d’habitation et de développement de Montréal, which will enhance the visitor experience and further facilitate accessibility to downtown parking. This tool is in addition to other measures we have announced, including free on-street parking in the downtown area, Fridays starting at 6 p.m. and weekends, which has just been extended for the entire month of March. We are determined to do everything we can to support Montreal's economy and make life easier for Montrealers," said Éric Alan Caldwell, Head of Urban Planning and Mobility on the City of Montreal's Executive Committee.

The app is available for download in the Apple Store or via Google Play. The Agency has partnered with Passport to create and power the application.
