Pilot project | electric scooters

As part of efforts to modernize its monitoring strategy, the Agency is launching a pilot project to test GeeBee brand electric scooters.

From late May to November, approximately 10 scooters will be used by our parking enforcement officers as they carry out their monitoring duties in heavily trafficked areas, particularly downtown and in the boroughs of Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.

The electric scooters join our highly diverse fleet of existing vehicles, which already includes gas and electric vehicles, bicycles and electric bikes. In the coming weeks, hybrid vehicles will also be added to the fleet. Our goal is to tailor the monitoring vehicles to the various settings we operate in.

Potential benefits of the pilot project include:

  • Cutting down on the number of gas vehicles used in monitoring operations, and thus on the GHG emissions generated
  • Providing our attendants with more agile vehicles that are better suited to dense urban areas
  • Allowing attendants to park closer to where they need to take action without blocking traffic

Data collection

The goal of the pilot project is to see whether electric scooters meet our needs and should be added to our vehicle fleet.

Data will be collected and analyzed to assess the following factors:
  • Working conditions of our parking attendants
  • Effectiveness of monitoring
  • Ability of electric scooters to replace gas vehicles
  • Vehicle usefulness for our operations
  • Vehicle ergonomics, safety and range

For sustainable mobility

This pilot project contributes to achieving the objectives laid out in our operational strategy plan. We are working to modernize our monitoring strategy and improve our attendants’ mobility by creating a diverse fleet of vehicles suited to a variety of urban settings.

We are also working to reduce the number of gas vehicles used in our operations in order to cut down on our GHG emissions.

GeeBee electric scooters are permitted to travel on public roads in Quebec thanks to an SAAQ pilot project authorizing their use.
