Pilot Project | License Plate Recognition (LPR)

Improving Mobility

The Agency, in collaboration with the City of Montréal, is keeping up the pace with a pilot project for automatic license plate recognition ("LPT") which aims to facilitate parking management and improve mobility in Montréal.

It will allow both the Agency to test and validate the technology to eventually define a broader LPR deployment program, and the City to obtain more information on the state and use of parking in Montréal.

This project will therefore facilitate the collection of relevant data that can eventually be used to implement innovative parking and mobility management measures.

Vehicule LPR

The vehicle is equipped with sensors including high-precision GPS, lasers and license plate readers that can photograph the plates of parked vehicles.

This project has two specific components:

  • Conduct rotation and occupancy surveys to document the recent COVID-19 initiative to provide free parking in Montreal, on evenings and weekends, from November 14 to December 31, 2020
  • Conduct a compliance check of resident-only parking stickers, specifically in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough.
